Carroll Softball Adds Four Transfers

Posted: Updated:
The newly created softball program at Carroll College continues to take shape as head softball coach Aaron Jackson announced the signing of four more student athletes Tuesday: Jasyn Mulcahy, Justine Taylor, Kinley Pope and Madison Jones.

“These four student-athletes are going to bring much needed college experience to our program.  Each of them has spent time on successful junior college programs and are ready to step into leadership roles on our team,” Jackson said.

Jasyn Mulcahy, a middle infielder originally of Helena, MT returns to the Queen City after spending two seasons at Williston State College (N. Dak.) where she was voted both All-Conference as well as All-Region. Mulcahy had a sterling .440 batting average along with 10 home runs, while fielding at a .921 clip.

“Jasyn’s development as a player has been tremendous.  She has developed into a solid fielder as well as a great hitter.  We expect her to contribute for our middle infield this season,” Jackson said.

During her prep career at Capital High School, Mulcahy was First Team All-State during both her junior and senior seasons.

“I love Helena, it is a great community and with Carroll now having a softball team it offers me the ability to play the game I love in my home town,” Mulcahy said.

Justine Taylor, originally of Belgrade comes to the hilltop from Dawson Community College (Glendive, Mont.) where she was voted All-Conference in both seasons (2013-14) and All-Region in 2013.  While at Dawson CC, Taylor set the stolen base record as she swiped 59 bags on 60 steal attempts.

“Justine is a truly versatile player who can fill in nearly anywhere on the field.  She is a switch hitter that is adept from both sides of the plate and brings great speed to our team,” Jackson said.

During Taylor’s prep career, she garnered All-State recognition three times and was a finalist for Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior.

“I wanted to be part of a new program at a college like Carroll that has high academic standards as well,” Taylor said.

Kinley Pope, a third baseman originally of Charlo, MT comes to Helena from Wenatchee Valley College (Wash.) where she excelled for two seasons and helped WVC to two regional titles.  This past season, Pope hit .417 while driving in 39 runs.

“Kinley is a hard nosed corner infielder who is not easily rattled and can really swing the bat.  Her experience in junior college will help us in our plan of building a well-balanced team,” Jackson said.

During her prep career, Pope was a two-time All-State Selection and was named All-League three times at Charlo High School.

“As I have already played two years at the college level, I hope to bring some leadership and experience to the team,” Pope said.

Madison Jones originally of Stevensville, MT started 12 games behind the plate last season for the University of Great Falls.  Previously, she spent two years at Wenatchee Valley as a member of two regional title squads.

“Madison is a catcher who has three years of collegiate experience that will be invaluable to our young team.  She will be able to help her teammates adjust to the college game as well as providing a steady presence behind the plate for our pitching staff,” Jackson said.

At Stevensville High School, Jones was a three-time All-Conference Selection and was voted All-State once and acted as a team captain for three seasons.

“I hope to help build a strong foundation for this new program and provide some senior leadership for us in our inaugural year,” Jones said.

Carroll College announced the addition of women’s softball and men’s soccer in February and will begin play this upcoming calendar year in each sport.  Carroll College Softball will play its first season this upcoming 2014-15 calendar year with home games at Batch Fields in Helena.
