Helena Bighorns Introduce New Head Coach Jonasson

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - "Without any further delay, let me introduce Jon Jonasson, head coach and general manager of the Helena Bighorns."

It's a new era for Bighorns Hockey. It's been over a decade since Helena has had a new head coach, and Jon Jonasson is aware of his expectations.

"It'll definitely be a change I think for the fans around here seeing a different face behind the bench," said Jonasson. "The biggest thing that I have to do is make sure I'm more involved with the community."

Coming from Jr. "A" hockey in Minnesota, Jonasson has a history of not only improving his players, but advancing them to the next level quickly.

"The biggest thing here is that we want to try and move kids up to the next level," said Jonasson. "That's why kids play at this level, because they want to move on. They don't just want to stay here for four years. We'd love to have them, but at the same time it's good for this level to move kids up."

The Bighorns move up to the NA3HL means there's going to be lots more competition for Helena. But Jonasson already has a plan in place to get his guys ready for the next level.

"We're going to be a hard working, grit team with a lot of skill," said Jonasson. "We're going to have a pretty high end offense is what we're going for. And one thing I've done is mastered the D-zone. Try to have as many goals as you can, and as little goals against as possible."

"The biggest difference is the level of play from our competition," said director of media relations Brad Ouldhouse. "So I hate to tell you but gone are the days of the 11-2 Bighorns victories."

So after a decade of stability and excellence, the Bighorns face plenty of uncertainties ahead. But finding the man to lead them through it is a start.
