Carroll Women's Soccer Ready to Make Some Noise in 2014

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - Last year the Carroll Women's Soccer program was experiencing a youth movement. This year, it's all about cashing in on that experience.

"Last year's team we were really young," said senior Tessa Neameyer. "We had nine upperclassmen total, and then 21 underclassmen. So this year we have 22 returning players, which is really awesome. So we have a lot of experience coming back so I think that's a huge difference."

"We actually really have a good mix," said head coach Dave Thorvilson. "Other than just three seniors, we have a huge junior class. So we have a good mix of upperclassmen. And for us it's just about getting on the same page and getting ready for our home opener on the 19th."

Along with that experience, the Saints boast a team of leaders. And one of the biggest keys to them this season, will be communication.

"If there's communication and everyone is talking, figuring out our issues it makes it way easier to play," said junior Kristyn Bohlander. "I mean you know what to do, you know what your teammates are doing. It just makes everything way easier."

"We do have some really strong leadership, and some kids that are really stepping into roles by just demanding and asking for a high level practice," said Thorvilson. "And that's going to relate very well for us when we need it in a game."

That demand of a high level practice isn't just from coaches. After so many close years, these upperclassmen know what that little extra can do.

"Not only are we just going to look to one person to score goals and allow us to win," said Neameyer, "but a team goal is to be a team together and work together as a team."

"Just getting really close and bonded, and hopefully that will help us out on the field," said Bohlander. "That's basically it. Just want our chemistry to be really good this year."

From youth movement to experienced, we'll see what kind of noise these Saints can make in 2014.
