HELENA - The date has been set for the Democratic Party to elect a new nominee to replace Senator John Walsh in the upcoming midterm elections.

Senator Walsh officially submitted his withdrawal Thursday from the Montana Senate race against current Congressman Steve Daines.

The meeting being held by the Montana Democratic Party is set for 9am on August 16th and will be held at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds.

The meeting will include leaders from all of Montana's fifty-six counties. Party Spokesman Bryan Watts, says he hopes to have a candidate nominated by the end of the day.

The new candidate must be selected by August 20th and will run against Daines and Libertarian candidate Roger Roots.

Walsh withdrew from the race after allegations surfaced that he plagiarized portions of a 2007 research paper he submitted to obtain a Master's Degree from the U.S. Army War College.
