VOYAGERS' WOES CONTINUE,  LOSE SLUGFEST IN GRAND JUNCTION

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (August 17, 2014) -Great Falls and Grand Junction combined to compile 32 hits, but it was the Rockies who came out on top, besting the Voyagers 11-9 Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

Great Falls (8-13, 31-28) found themselves trailing 8-7 heading into the eighth, but tied it up with one swing of the bat, as Ryan Jones hit his second homer of the year to tie it. The Voyagers had a chance to bring home a few more in the frame, but Yoely Bello (2-0) bailed out the Rockies (13-7, 36-22) with back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

The Rockies then regained the lead in the home half of the frame. Nate Causey came through with the big hit for Grand Junction, doubling off Devon Davis (0-1) to bring in a pair and give him three RBIs on the day. Causey then scored later in the frame to push the lead to three.

After giving up four runs and taking the loss on Friday, Grand Junction went back to Alec Crawford for the ninth. The righty surrendered a sacrifice fly to Ryan Jones for his third RBI of the game, but stranded the tying runs on base to collect his ninth save.

For the third straight game in this series, the Voyagers scored first, as Patrick Palmeiro led off the second with a solo home run.

The lead did not last long as the Rockies plated five in their half of the inning, starting when Causey hit his third homer of the season. Wesley Jones, Yonathan Daza, and Hamlet Marte each collected RBIs in the inning as well, while the fifth run scored on a Voyagers error.

The Voyagers crawled their way back in it in, scoring one each in the third and fourth frames, before taking the lead in the fifth.

Hunter Jones started the rally with an opposite field homer, marking his 23rd birthday with his second homer for Great Falls. Later in the frame, Zach Fish picked up an RBI double, and then scored when Palmeiro hit a two-run homer, giving him his second multi-homer effort this season.

Grand Junction did not allow the Voyagers to hold the lead for long, as they tied it with a run of their own in the bottom half, before regaining the lead on a Marte homer in the sixth.

The Voyagers wrap-up their seven-game road trip and four-game series with the Rockies Monday night at Suplizio Field. Great Falls will send left-hander Brian Clark (2-3, 2.88) to the mound, while Grand Junction will counter with righty Craig Schlitter (3-1, 2.48). First pitch is set for 7:05 and coverage will begin at 6:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
