HELENA -

The Secretary of State signed a pledge today that shows her support for servicemen of the guard and reserve.

The ESRG is a Department of Defense agency that aims to create a culture where employers support and value the military service of their employees...in other words ensuring our servicemen are treated fairly by their employers when they leave for their annual training. With Secretary of State Linda McCulloch signing the pledge, she is encouraging Montana employers to show their support for guard and reserve members.

Servicemen like Montana Air National Guard who went to help the state of Washington fight wildfires may not have their civilian job when they return home. And today Secretary of State Linda McCulloch signed a pledge that supports the efforts in encouraging Montana employers to keep and value their employees who serve in the guard or reserve.

McCulloch says her family background allows her to already be supportive of these efforts.

"I came from a big military family so I've always supported hiring military, and not only hiring them, but supporting them when they have to go off and do their annual training or their mission assignments," McCulloch said.

McCulloch said her office has a member of the military working for her, and they are very supportive of his service.

"He's an employee that we've hired a couple month ago and we very much support him going off and doing his annual training and coming back to the same job and doing the same thing," McCulloch said. "I mean folks in our office are kind of picking up for him now and everyone supports it."

Employers signing the pledge show that they fully recognize, honor and enforce the uniformed services employment and reemployment right act., will provide the tools necessary to properly manage guard or reserve employees, and appreciate the leadership and skills service members bring to the work force.

The Secretary of State said her office hired a servicemen a couple months ago, who is currently away for his annual training. She said her office is very supportive of his military service and they're looking forward to his return.
