The University of Great Falls volleyball team opened its season with a pair of victories Thursday at the Sports Travel Northwest Invitational.

The Lady Argos defeated Simpson (Calif.) University 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 in the day's first match. UGF followed up with a 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18 victory over Northwest (Wash.) University.

“This group has a high ceiling and they're playing really well together for a relatively new group,” UGF coach Arunas Duda said. “Dani (Norling) is doing a great job setting for us.”

Tiffany Marks and Alyssa McEwan each had 13 kills, Madison Wilhelm tallied 11 and Gabby Bienkowski chipped in 10 during the victory over Northwest. Norling had 47 assists and Jacey Habets added 21 digs.

“That was a good win against a quality team,” Duda said. “We played very clean today.”

McEwan recorded eight kills and two blocks, while Wilhelm had seven kills and 2.5 blocks in the victory over Simpson. Habets recorded 10 digs and Norling lofted 30 assists.

The Invite continues Friday. UGF (2-0) faces No. 23 Eastern Oregon at 11 a.m., and Walla Walla (Wash.) University at 3 p.m.
