Saints' Van Diest Looking for Depth in Fall Scrimmage

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - It's a rare off afternoon for the Saints as they prepare for tomorrow's scrimmage. Not a lot of spots up for grabs but they do have one opening going in to tomorrow's scrimmage.

"The number one spot, and priority first on defense was trying to find a corner to take Mike Seager's place," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "Ryan Gregory is going to be a sophomore out of Gonzaga prep high school. He's done an outstanding job. He's had a great spring. I think there's a couple other guys that have played very well back there. And then again, on offensive line and wide receivers I think we have some depth. We just have to get those guys some reps with different combinations."

When asked about who fans should keep an eye out for in this scrimmage, Van Diest was absolutely gushing over one of his receivers.

"A guy who has had a great fall camp is Stephen Delaney, wide receiver, who came over from the track team last spring," said Van Diest. "Had a great spring football. Did outstanding this summer with Mac Roche in the throwing game and working on his timing routes everyday. And he's not a surprise of fall camp but he may be our MVP of fall camp."

The scrimmage is set for 3:45 tomorrow afternoon here at Nelson Field. Not too much drama as coach said in terms of the starters. Coach said the starters would be playing a couple of series and then it would be mix and match the rest of the way to figure out those combinations.
