Great Falls Central Ready For 2014

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls Central Catholic Mustangs went 5-4 in 2013. To many, that's a good season, but when you don't make state playoffs, it leaves you disappointed, and the Mustangs don't want to feel that again in 2014.

The Great Falls Central Catholic Mustangs open up their season this Saturday with a tough division match up in Chinook. The Mustangs return several key starters which include two way player Nolan Donisthorpe and Quarterback Reid Nelson who had a stellar junior year in 2013. The Mustangs expect to build off of last years 5-4 record and make a return to the state playoffs which has the team excited.

Head Coach Mike nelson said that the Mustangs need to "just play within themselves right now, you don't really have a scout or anything yet so we just have to worry about the things we can do. We're going to try to run the ball well. Defensively, we definitely have to improve from last year. We have to tackle better. We have a better scheme for the type of kids we have defensively."

Guard Carter Anderson said of the season being a team effort "we just expect that everybody knows their assignments, the younger guys are watching and ready to go if that big moment comes. All of us need to be ready."

The GFCC Mustangs will take on the Chinook Sugarbeeters this Saturday in Week One of the 2014 season. The Beeters defeated the Mustangs 56-38 in last seasons meeting at Central.

Both teams are looking to make it back to the postseason after being absent in 2013. Both last made them in 2012.
