Wittich Claims Dismissed

Posted: Updated:
A Helena judge dismissed claims made by State Senate Majority Leader Art Wittich that his counterparts were trying to run him out of office.

Earlier this year, Wittich, who serves out of Bozeman, was found by Commissioner of Political Practices Jonathan Motl to have coordinated illegal campaign contributions from 'Western Tradition Partnership' which has been deemed a dark-money-group.

Wittich then filed a counter suit alleging that Motl's actions and ultimate goal were to remove him from his position. In that same counter suit, he accused Motl, Governor Steve Bullock, Republican Senator Bruce Tutvedt, and Motl's predecessor Jim Murray, of conspiring against him.

Along with rejecting Wittich's claims on Wednesday, District Judge Jeffrey Sherlock also rejected another accusation of misconduct and abuse of process that was brought against Motl. If Judge Sherlock agrees with Motl's original findings, Wittich could be removed from office.
