Lady Argos forge tie with Mount Royal

Another game meant another overtime for the University of Great Falls women's soccer team.

And while the Lady Argonauts did not garner that elusive first victory for which they continue to look, UGF did hold on for a 1-1 tie with visiting Mount Royal University Saturday morning at Siebel Soccer Park.

The Argos (0-2-1) have twice lost in overtime this season.

“I think it's just showing a little bit of our immaturity,” UGF coach Brian Clarke said. “I think you've seen the progression. We got the tie today and I think if we get in another situation like that we can come out on top.”

UGF freshman Alejandra Guzman broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 49th minute.

Mount Royal answered five minutes later when Jolee Dangerfield headed home a corner kick from Taylor Lamb.

“Mount Royal is a very physical, fast, athletic and technical team,” Clarke said. “I felt the girls really competed. We'll learn to not concede that tying goal when we get up. But we didn't concede in overtime, and it's an improvement.”

UGF goalkeeper Jocelyn Morris recorded 10 saves as the Cougars outshot the Argos 16-11.

UGF returns to action Monday against Evergreen (Wash.) State College. The match begins at 11 a.m. at Siebel Soccer Park.
