Plane crashes southeast of Great Falls; 1 killed

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say one person was killed when a single-engine plane crashed about 30 miles southeast of Great Falls.

The Great Falls Tribune reports ( ) Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards confirmed the death. He says others on the plane had been hospitalized after the crash Tuesday afternoon.

Edwards didn't know how many were were hospitalized or how serious their injuries were.

No names have been released.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer (KEN'-iht-zur) confirmed four people were on board.

Great Falls International Airport Director John Faulkner says the single-engine Cessna Cardinal had left the airport at about 1 p.m.

The plane crashed near Showdown Ski Area in the Little Belt Mountains. Edwards says a survivor apparently reached U.S. 89 nearby and summoned help.

The sheriff's department and federal officials are investigating.
