Townsend Football Ready for First Challenge Hosting Florence-Carlton

Posted: Updated:
TOWNSEND - Townsend is buzzing with anticipation for the 2014 season, as they get ready for tomorrow's home opener hosting Florence-Carlton. Now the Bulldogs know the Falcons present some issues. They've got a pretty good running game, but the big issue will be last week against Thompson Falls the Falcons were down 13-7 going into the fourth quarter. They ended up scoring 13 points in the quarter to take a 20-13 victory. So they know they need to be on their toes for this game.

"They like to get after the quarterback," said Bulldogs head coach Travis Rauh. "They play a tight cover four or this kind of a cover zero type of look. They like to blitz backers, so we're going to have to be sound picking up the blitzes. Offensively they're pretty diverse. They'll throw their trips bunch type stuff, and obviously they have a pretty good tailback that they're trying to get the ball back to as well."

"Everybody is jacked," said Bulldogs senior lineman Devinn Ragen. "Everybody is pretty pumped for the first game of the season being at home. And we just have a lot of emotions flying and this should be a good one."

"Well everyone is saying that we're going to do good but we've just got to prove that this Friday," said Bulldogs junior quarterback Jace Lewis. "We've got to come out strong, and not flat, and not too overconfident."

Talking with players at practice they said they didn't have any game film of Florence-Carlton from last week, so they feel like they're going in just a little bit blind. But there is so much talent on this year's Bulldogs squad that they should be able to overcome that. This is a team that has a real chance to go all the way this season, with Friday night being the first step.
