Saints Looking to Rebound After First Opening Loss Under Van Diest

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - History was made this past weekend for the Carroll Saints football program, but not in a good way. They lost a season opener for the first time since head coach Mike Van Diest took over the program in 1999. Despite a solid performance out of first time starting quarterback Mac Roche, at the end of the day the Saints defense couldn't slow down the high flying Southern Oregon offense enough to pull out the win. But even with the loss the Saints have to find a way to move on before hosting tech this weekend.

"It's disappointing, these are good players, they work hard, it's one game in the season," said Van Diest. "They know they still have another game this weekend. It's great that we're playing Tech, but regardless of who we're playing we've got to get ready. And we've got a heck of a chore in front of us. They've got two great running backs over there in Butte, and I'm sure those two guys are doing cartwheels looking at our film. They're pretty excited to run the ball against our defense.
