Saints Bury Tech Diggers Early, Get First Win 38-10

HELENA - After giving up over 500 yards of total offense last week against Southern Oregon, the Carroll Saints defense needed a rebound game. And Montana Tech seemed to be just what the doctor ordered.

"We played more assignment alignment football," said Saints senior middle linebacker Sean Blomquist. "We still had a lot of mistakes, and tomorrow we'll correct that. But we played a lot better defensively today."

"I just coached a little bit better during the week in terms of getting guys in the right positions," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "I didn't make those adjustments last week. We talked about on Monday and Tuesday and the guys responded. They came back very well prepared. They put the game behind us, and that was it. We moved on. It was a lot of fun to come out here, have some success early on, overcome a couple turnovers, and I thought the whole team played well. The kicking game was awesome."

"Our defense just flew around," said Saints junior quarterback Mac Roche. "The secondary did their job. They had three picks I think. And the d-line was getting to him. Overall, the defense played really outstanding today."

After hearing all last week about that week one loss the players and coaches are just so happy to finally get this first win. But they can't relax for too long. They're headed to a 3-0 Rocky team next week in Billings.
