Boulder Prepping for State Semi's Rematch Hosting Loyola

Posted: Updated:
With Loyola rolling into town this Friday it's a bit of an understatement to say there's some bad blood between these two teams. Boulder went 10-2 last season with both losses coming to Loyola. So if this team wants to prove 2014 is a different year, this is the perfect time to make a statement.

"It's a huge game," said Panthers head coach Clint Layng. "It's one we've been looking forward to because they're the only team that beat us last year. They beat us in the regular season and in the semi finals, and they're the two time defending state champion. It doesn't get any better than that."

"I definitely want to win this game," said senior safety Reilly Leary. "Not only do I want to win it for me, but I want to win it for my team, and my team last year. I think last year's team definitely wants us to win, so I want to win it for them."

Avenging last year's team isn't the only goal though. This is about reputation for Boulder.

"We want to show them that we're not scared of them even though they beat us twice in a row as the only team last year," said junior linebacker Trase LeTexier. "It'd be huge. It'd show that Boulder isn't just someone that teams can count out every year now. Now we're finally maybe a contender."

Offensively Boulder has committed to the ground and pound game and it's paid some early dividends. Through three games they are averaging 43 points per night. Compare that to Loyola who has only scored 21 points in their two games.
