De La Vina lifts Lady Argos past Jamestown

Dani De La Vina scored off an assist from Madison Quinn as the University of Great Falls women's soccer team defeated Jamestown 1-0 Saturday at Siebel Soccer Park.

The victory snapped a four-game winless streak for the Lady Argos (5-5-2) as UGF completed the season sweep over Jamestown. UGF also defeated the Jimmies 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 14.

“It was a hard-fought game,” UGF coach Brian Clarke said. “Both teams had opportunities. We finished when we needed to, and we really held strong defensively.”

The win gave the Lady Argos their first five-win season since 2012.

Goalkeeper Jocelyn Morris recorded the shutout thanks in part to impressive play from the back line.

“All four of the backs were solid and didn't allow a lot of great opportunities,” Clarke said.

De La Vina scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 66th minute. Quinn won a loose ball and played it to De La Vina, who notched her 11th goal of the season.

“It was a great first touch and (De La Vina) put it away,” Clarke said. “She's been waiting to score that goal again.”

UGF returns to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against No. 19 Westminster at Siebel.
