GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Great Falls women's basketball team has played three games this season, and a different player has led the Lady Argos in scoring each time.

Sunday afternoon was Darah Huertas-Vining's turn. The junior guard scored a game-high 22 points as the Lady Argonauts defeated Mount Royal 86-51 at the McLaughlin Center.

The victory was UGF's third in as many days to cap a three-game season-opening homestand.

“It was a great win tonight,” UGF coach Bill Himmelberg said. “It was nice to see the girls come out and play a lot better defense. We played a lot better on the inside.”

Huertas-Vining hit three 3-pointers to open the game and also knocked down all six free throws awarded to her after she was fouled on two additional 3-point attempts.

Erin Legel, who eclipsed 1,000 career points in a 37-point effort Saturday, added 15 points and six assists Sunday. Freshman Stephanie McDonagh had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Lindsey Abramson scored 10 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and handed out five assists.

“It's good to have teammates like Lindsey and Erin,” Huertas-Vining said. “They just got me the ball, and I just kept hitting shots.”

UGF held Mount Royal scoreless for a large portion of the first half en route to a 52-25 halftime lead. The large advantage allowed Himmelberg to use his entire bench.

“You never know when someone is going to get hurt or be in foul trouble,” the fifth-year head coach said. “Then those girls are going to have to go in. It was great to see those girls get those quality minutes.”

Kendalyn Brainard added nine points and Ashley Crippen scored seven off the bench.

“Our bench really played well tonight,” Himmelberg said. “They had some good minutes and helped us out quite a bit.”

The Lady Argos play at Lethbridge Friday and play Mount Royal again in Lethbridg
