Senior Standout: Celie Salmond, Choteau HS

"Not a loud leader, but a silent leader and someone you have to reckon with," said Ann Funk, Choteau volleyball head coach.

Celie Salmond is a quiet kid. But don't mistake that for being soft because she's as tough a girl as anyone out there.

"You know coming from a ranching community and the ranching realm of things, she's a tough kid. And mentally she has to be tough and physically she has to be tough," said Funk.

Celie and her family own and live on a ranch. So rodeo is her main sport, but she's not too bad at volleyball either.

"She competes in all of her activities. It doesn't matter if it's volleyball, basketball or rodeo. She will compete and her attitude about getting better is tremendous," said Funk.

Celie gets it. She understands what it takes to be successful and strives for that every day.

"Just working hard and knowing that I can achieve more each and every day. And each day I work for something greater. Like in volleyball, you strive for that next point and in the classroom you work towards A's every day," said Choteau senior, Celie Salmond.

Her report card is nothing but A's. And speaking of school, she wants to go to college and do rodeo just like her mom and dad.

"Probably college rodeo. Just because that's what my mom and dad both did and they started me out and keep me going with everything," said Salmond.

Celie is still undecided on where she wants to follow in her parent's footsteps. But wherever she goes, that school will be lucky to have her because they're getting a kid who's not only strong but she's got the "it" factor that everyone wants.
