Saints Rinker 12 Yards Away from Rushing Record

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - The Carroll Saints got revenge on Southern Oregon over the weekend, but it was senior running back Dustin Rinker who took one step closer to the record books. After rushing for 201 yards on Saturday Rinker now sits 12 yards short of the school record for rushing yards in a career.

The current school record is held by former NAIA player of the year Chance Demarais, who rushed for 4,474 yards in his career. Rinker currently has 4,462 yards, and could break Demarais' record this Saturday against Montana Tech. Rinker did not know he was close to breaking the school record last week, but his coaches and teammates both feel that he deserves to be embedded in school history.

"It's awesome," said Saints junior linebacker Sean Blomquist. "I love Rink. He comes every day and he doesn't complain. He works his butt off. He's a great player, and he always has been. He's our offensive work horse."

"If you ask Rinker about it he's like "Who cares?" said Saints junior quarterback Mac Roche. "He's team first, and that's just the way he is. But it is a big thing for Carroll and it's a big thing for this team."

"He does everything right, and he never has an excuse for anything," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "He doesn't need it because he doesn't make many mistakes. He deserves it, and you know who else deserves it: the offensive line."
