Saints Preparing for Upset Minded Montana Tech this Saturday

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - This isn't the same Orediggers squad that Carroll trounced in week two 38-10. There's been a change in the backfield. Just two weeks after their loss to the Saints, Montana Tech turned to former Helena High Bengal Dawson Reardon to take over the reigns at QB.

"I think he makes good decisions," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "He can run the football, he's good on the quarterback keep play. He just seems to add a little new life into their offense."

"I don't think the quarterback change is going to change anything whatsoever how we game plan it," said Saints junior linebacker Shayne Durbin. "Yeah it's a different number and a different face, but they're going to do the same thing regardless."

At 1-6, the Diggers present a unique challenge. Two games ago they came up just shy of upsetting Rocky Mountain. Then last week they almost beat MSU Northern on the road. So the Saints know despite Tech's record, they can't mail this one in.

"You look at some of the scores, and you look at them playing Rocky and some of these teams and they're playing pretty well," said Saints senior running back Dustin Rinker. "Just the end of the game doesn't come out for them. We've got to really finish the game well."

"We're over half of the season through," said Van Diest. "We have six games under our belt. There's only four guaranteed games left for these seniors, and they want to make sure they don't overlook anybody, which they never do."

As Rinker and coach Van Diest just said, the Saints will have to be on their toes in Butte. In each of the Diggers' last two games they've led late in the second half, even forcing Rocky into overtime, only to collapse in the final minutes. The Saints are just hoping they haven't learned from their late game woes just yet.
