CMR Ready for Rematch with Helena High

Posted: Updated:
The CMR Rustlers were chomping at the bit for a rematch with Helena High. They lost the first meeting.....but they will tell you that they weren't themselves.

"I think we kind of took ourselves out of some of the things we wanted to do," says CMR Head Coach Gary Lowry. "Like turning the ball over three times in the 4th quarter. They're very good defensively and a good offense. They spread the ball around on offense and their defense is just solid."

Solid couldn't be more spot-on. The Bengal defense held the Rustlers to a season low seven points. Helena High has the number one defense in the state, but Andrew Grinde (who leads the state in rushing yards per game) believes they can break through.

"Well we got the best O-Line in the state," says CMR Junior Andrew Grinde."And we know we can take them."

Establishing the ground game will be key for CMR. All four of their Touchdowns in their playoff win over Billings Senior came on the ground. Grinde had three them, including an 82 yard run on the first play of the game. Karl Tucker II got the other touchdown on a 33-yard run. If they can get anywhere near that production against the Bengals, the rest of the offense could fall into place.

"I feel like we got to run the ball well," says CMR Junior Karl Tucker II. "With Andrew back there, Dallas has got to play well. Offense just got to click together...offensive line needs to play good like they always do. Running the ball I think is going to be a big thing."

"They're a good team. We got to be prepared," Grinde added. "We can't take any plays off. We know that and we have to come mentally prepared too."

If the Rustlers can find a way to solve that Helena High defense and play like they have against everyone else this season, their reward will be a chance to play for state title number fourteen. Which would be the first in the Gary Lowry era.
