Carroll Saints Ready for Quarterfinals

Posted: Updated:

It's back to work for the number one ranked Carroll Saints. After their 49-0 first round win over Valley City State on Saturday, the Saints are back to practice today and are preparing for a familiar opponent in Southern Oregon who Carroll will host on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NAIA playoffs. And heading in, the Saints should be feeling pretty good based on their performance on Saturday in the first round, meanwhile the Raiders played a close three quarters before going off for 17 points in  the fourth quarter to beat Nazarene in their first round game. But regardless of the Saints' familiarity with Southern Oregon, when you're down to the final eight teams anything can happen, especially with so many good teams left.

"The eight best teams won their first round match ups, and this is probably the best eight teams in this round that I've seen since I started coaching at Carroll College," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest.

"There's no for sure wins anymore," said Saints junior quarterback Mac Roche. "All the teams are great teams left. So hopefully we can come out and play our best game of the season against SOU."
