Five Cats Selected to Big Sky All-Conference First Team

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN, Mont. – On a team known for its balance during the regular season, Montana State showed that characteristic in the awards season, as well. Five Bobcats earned First Team All-Big Sky Conference honors Tuesday, including two each on offense and defense and one on special teams.

Fourteen Montana State players landed on the first, second or third all-league teams, as voted on by conference coaches. The five Bobcat first team selections featured seniors Tiai Salanoa (tight end), Alex Singleton (linebacker) and Deonte Flowers (cornerback). A pair of sophomores – guard J.P. Flynn and special teams player Chad Newell – also earned first team mention. Each of the five are first-time first teamers.

“I'm very proud of the players that were honored today, and the players in our program who weren't honored but who made it possible for their teammates to earn accolades,” said Bobcat coach Rob Ash. “I feel very happy for the players who were selected. It shows that they are respected in the league, and that our program is well thought of.”

Senior guard Quinn Catalano, junior defensive tackle Taylor Sheridan, and senior return specialist Shawn Johnson earned second team all-league honors. Johnson was one of five players on the third team, joining tackle John Weideannar, center Joel Horn, and quarterback Dakota Prukop. Linebacker Cole Moore and safety Rob Marshall also landed on the third team. Those feted as honorable mention selections Tuesday included: defensive end Odin Coe and punter Trevor Bolton.

Three of MSU's four team captains - Salanoa, Catalano and Moore - earned all-league honors. Eight of those honored are underclassmen.

Montana State hosts South Dakota State in an FCS Playoffs first round game Saturday at 2 pm at Bobcat Stadium.
