The University of Great Falls women's basketball team fell 87-71 in an exhibition game Thursday against Montana State at Worthington Arena.

It's the second exhibition defeat to a Big Sky Conference team this year for the Lady Argos. UGF also fell earlier this season to the University of Montana in Missoula.

Darah Huertas-Vining led all scorers with 24 points as she paced the Lady Argos. Erin Legel scored 22, while Lindsey Abramson scored 12 and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds. Stephanie McDonagh added nine points.

But the Lady Argos only received two points off the bench, and were out-rebounded 46-36 – leading to 18 second-chance points for the Bobcats.

“It's hard to win when we only get two bench points,” UGF coach Bill Himmelberg said. “We didn't control the boards, and we gave up way too many second-chance points. We also turned the ball over more than we normally do.”

The Argos committed an uncharacteristic 18 turnovers while MSU had only nine. UGF shot 43 percent from the field – including 59 percent in the second half. But it wasn't nearly enough to topple the Division I Bobcats.

“We shot great, but we didn't give ourselves enough opportunities because we gave up too many second-chance points,” Himmelberg said.

The Lady Argos trailed 41-29 at the half. MSU's lead swelled to 21 in the second half.

Jasmine Hommes led MSU with 23 points, while Jackie Elliott added 19 points and seven boards. Peyton Ferris scored 10, while Lindsay Stockton scored 10 points, collected four rebounds and had three assists for the Bobcats.

Huertas-Vining was 4 of 8 from the 3-point line and Abramson's 17 boards were nearly half of UGF's total.

“Lindsey and Darah each did a great job tonight,” Himmelberg said. “I'm proud of our kids and how they played, but disappointed in that our bench just wasn't there tonight.”

The Lady Argos return to action at home Dec. 13 against Milligan College at the McLaughlin Center.
