University of Great Falls wrestling coach Caleb Schaeffer has announced the signing of Clay Stillwagon to the Argonauts wrestling team.

Stillwagon, a senior at Butte (Mont.) Central High School, won the Montana Class A state title at 98 pounds in 2013. Stillwagon also placed fourth as a freshman and was the 113-pound runner-up last February.

“We just keep signing the best kids from the state of Montana,” Schaeffer said. “It is very impressive to keep so many wrestlers in-state. Clay has wrestled at some of the biggest tournaments in the country, and his experience is going to be a huge asset to our program.”

Stillwagon also boasts an impressive record on the club wrestling circuit. He was a 2012 FILA All-American in both freestyle and Greco-Roman, and was a USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle All-American in 2013.

“I chose the University of Great Falls because it just seems like the perfect fit for me with a great pre-med program and has the small classroom sizes,” Stillwagon said. “I really like the wrestling program and cannot wait until I get to perform on the mat and in the classroom as an Argonaut.”

Stillwagon is also a member of National Honor Society, was named Academic All-State, and was the 2014 Red Ribbon Week essay winner.
