OPINA'S OPINION - Montana Prep Basketball Fantasy Teams

Posted: Updated:
To be honest with you, I am geeking out over another season of Montana High School Hoops.

Some teams have already begun their seasons while others will begin this weekend.

The KFBB Sports Team has (jokingly and seriously) put together Fantasy Football and Baseball/Softball Fantasy teams comprised of Montana prep athletes in the past.

Now that Hoops season is here, what if the KFBB Sports team started a Montana Fantasy Basketball League? Who would I want on my team?

The rosters are listed below.

Montana Boys Basketball Fantasy Team

Guard: Matt Wyman (Great Falls High)
Guard: Kendal Manuel (Billings Skyview)
Forward: Tres Tinkle (Hellgate)
Forward: Jared Samuelson (West)
Center: Brendan Howard (Great Falls High)

Bench: Henry Garrett (Helena High)
Bench: Brandon The Boy (Box Elder)
Bench: Lukas Vining (Great Falls High)
Bench: Chase South (Helena High)
Bench: Chase “Birdman” Rossmiller (Power)

Team Analysis

I know this team is Class AA heavy. I really wanted Great Falls High's “Big Three” in Wyman, Howard and Vining. And to mix up the classes, I added Brandon The Boy from the Class C Defending Champions and Chase “Birdman” Rossmiller.

Tres Tinkle – The best player in the state. If you don't know who he is by now, you've been living under a rock.

Jared Samuelson – The guy is going to the Griz. That's another D-I player I'd want on my team

Matt Wyman – I'm expecting the Carroll-Signee (as well as the entire Bison team) to have a big year. Wyman is a straight up baller. That's why he's matTHE wyMAN (And my #1 Overall Pick)

Brendan Howard – He was All-State and averaged a double-double as a Freshman. A FRESHY FRESH FRESHMAN. He's about 6'4” and has still LOTS of room to grow.

Bench – Chase South and Henry Garrett had remarkable performances at the state tournament last year and Lukas Vining was my selection for most improved. I got the most stacked bench in the league!

Montana Girls Basketball Fantasy Team

Guard: Kenzie Johnston (Capital)
Guard: Taylor Edwards (CMR)
Forward: Lizzy Klinker (Fairfield)
Forward: Averie Collins (Bozeman)
Center: Hannah Dean (Gardiner)

Bench: Markaela Francis (Highwood)
Bench: Addy Martin (Belt)
Bench: Nora Klick (Great Falls High)
Bench: Dani Urick (Belt)
Bench: Mary Bryggman (Capital)

Team Analysis

As far as classifications go, this team is a bit more mixed up compared to the boys team. But honestly, I cheated in adding players from different classes. Lizzy Klinker and Markaela Francis are both transfers from Great Falls High. I thought they were GREAT playing for the Lady Bison and I expected them to have big Senior years before I learned about their transfers.

Kenzie Johnston – Another D-I basketball signee. She can dish the rock like no other.

Taylor Edwards – She's a straight up baller. She's one of the highest scoring players in the state and I'm also expecting her to have a big senior year.

Lizzy Klinker – All-Conference in the AA and she'll look to help the new generation of Fairfield Eagles continue their winning ways after the departure of a talented Senior class that includes Jill Barta.

Markaela Francis – She was a HUGE addition to the Highwood/Geraldine Volleyball team. I can't wait to see what she'll do for Highwood Basketball.

Hannah Dean – Another Carroll Signee. Helped lead Gardiner to the State tournament last year where they lost to Belt in the first round. But she's a force in the post no doubt.

Addy Martin – The only returning starter from the three-time defending champions Belt Huskies. So of course I'd want her on my team. I predict she'll be All-State this year.

Dani Urick – A bit of a gamble, but you guys should hear the way head coach Jeff Graham talked her up she was only in 8th grade. Knowing Belt and their history of winning and consistency, I'm going to believe in every word Coach Graham said about her. I think she'll have a break-out year as a Freshman.

Mary Bryggman – Another gamble to draft. But in the three years that I've been around Capital High Girls Basketball, they ALWAYS have a post player that performs well (it must be Bill Pilgeram's system). First it was Kaye Bignell then Michaela Dowdy, who were both All-State posts as Seniors. I think Mary Bryggman, only a sophomore, is the next force down low for the Lady Bruins.

Keep in mind this is NOT a preseason All-State team where I list the best players (That's for AFTER the season ;) preseason is about predicting who will have a big year). It's a draft that I wanted to have fun with. So parents, please don't send me haters-gonna-hate tweets and e-mails about how I didn't include someone in this blog (which is OPINION based by the way). I'm sure at some point during the season I'll get your kid in the highlights for TV.

Most of my selections were made based on stats and all-conference/state teams from last year.

I also used my AA Postseason Awards blog to make selections too, which you can read by clicking here.
