MSUN Volleyball Adds Flathead Product and Bakersfield Native

 MSUN Signs Flathead Product

Montana State University-Northern volleyball coach Bill Huebsch has announced the signing of Emily Russell to join the Skylight program this January. Russell, a 5-foot-8 setter,will transfer from Spokane Falls Community College. She is a 2013 graduate of Flathead High School in Kalispell, Mont.

At Spokane Falls, she earned second team All-Eastern Region honors and was a member of the All-NWAACC Academic Team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.44. She was selected to play in the NWAACC All-Star Game and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Spokane Crossover Tournament. She was a three-time selection as the Eastern Region Setter of the Week. Russell was also named the Setter of the Week for the entire NWAACC for her performance in week eight of the season.

At Flathead High School, Russell was an all-conference and all-state setter. She helped lead Flathead to a second place finish at the State AA Volleyball Tournament. She was also a key member of the Bravette basketball team, where she earned honorable mention all-conference honors and helped them to their first state AA Tournament since 2008.

According to Huebsch, "Emily is a great leader with a high volleyball I.Q. She is a very good player who brings a lot of maturity to our program. We are excited about her future in a Skylight uniform."

Russell is the daughter of Danny and Kristy Johnson. She plans on majoring in elementary education at MSU-Northern.

Skylights Sign Bakersfield, California Native

Nicolette Bloomer is a transfer student from Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming.

Originally from Bakersfield, Calif., Nicolette is the daughter of Michael and Sheryl Bloomer. She is the oldest of her two siblings, Amber (18) and Garet (16).

While in high school, Nicolette and her club team received third place at the 2012 USA Junior National Tournament. While at Northwest College, Nicolette and her team won the Region IX Conference in 2012 and 2014 and won the Region IX tournament in 2013 and 2014. They also placed ninth in 2013 and fourth in 2014 at the Junior College National Tournament.

Nicolette is attending school for a degree in business administration and plans to earn her master's degree. She is very excited to start at her new home in January of 2015.
