Lady Argos Prepare for Conference Play

Posted: Updated:

The Lady Argos enter conference play with the best team they've ever had in school history. Just look at the numbers. After an 11-0 start they are currently 13-2. And they have a lot of confidence going into Friday's opener against 13th-ranked Lewis-Clark State, especially after only losing to 11th-ranked Westmont by three on the road.

Being able to go against that team, we didn't have a very good first half but our second half was pretty good and we still came back and lost by only three," says junior guard Darah Huertas-Vining. So I think that gave the team a lot of motivation to believe that we can beat these higher ranked teams.

The game between the Lady Argos and Warriors will be a shoot-out. UGF and L-C State rank 1st and 2nd in the conference in scoring and the teams have three of the top five scorers in the Frontier. Erin Legel is number one while L-C State's Tanis Fuller is number two. Lindsay Abramson, who ranks 5th, will get the assignment of guarding Fuller. It's a match-up that could be the X-Factor.

"Two great players. Lindsay and Tanis, they've been battling pretty much their whole careers against each other," says UGF head coach Bill Himmelberg. "It's not going to be any different this weekend. I think they look forward to going against each other."

Last Year the Lady Argos handed L-C State their 2nd conference loss of the season. It was a big win for UGF at the time and it's still fresh in their minds.

"We're excited to play them here," says UGF senior guard Mackenzie Owens. "We're excited to play them there too. Definitely here especially after the win we got last year."

UGF's Goal is to get to nationals. To take one step closer to the big dance, they'll have to beat one of the three Frontier teams that went last year.
