Carroll Releases Statement on Football Player's Suspended Sentence

Posted: Updated:

Carroll Saints wide receiver Jordan Christopher Jernigan pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor possession of steroid pills on Wednesday, according to reports. The former Great Falls High Bison was initially charged with two felony counts of criminal possession with intent to distribute.

Carroll All-American Linebacker Sean Blomquist, who just finished his senior year with the Saints, says one action of a player does not reflect the entire program.

"Extremely disappointed to see Carroll Football represented in such a negative way," said Blomquist on Twitter. "I swear whole heartedly no one of the 2014 team participated in this player's illegal actions. Disappointed to see a prestigious program tarnished by a kid who didn't play."

KFBB reached out to Carroll College for a statement on Jernigan. Their statement is below.

CARROLL COLLEGE'S OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Due to Carroll College's legal obligation to comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we cannot share details about disciplinary measures regarding a particular student.

While we cannot speak to a specific student's situation, we can explain our student conduct code process, which can be found in detail in the Carroll Student Handbook (p. 106).

The college's student conduct administrator reviews each individual case as it pertains to Carroll's student conduct code procedures. At the start of the process, a student is asked to submit a written statement. If the student takes responsibility for the violation, the focus of the discussion is on the behavior and the sanctions. If the student does not acknowledge responsibility, the student conduct administrator can schedule a conduct board hearing to determine if there was a violation of college policy and have the board determine the sanctions.

In situations regarding student-athletes, the director of athletics will review the case as it pertains to the student-athlete Commitment to Excellence contract and make a determination regarding any sanctions.

KFBB will keep you updated as the situation develops.
