Cats Men Seeking to End 8-Game Losing Streak to Griz

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN - The last eight games the Montana State men's basketball team has played against the Griz they have lost. On Saturday night the Bobcats hope to put an end to the losing.
"When you're going through what we're going through, you go with the rifle approach instead of the shotgun approach," said Cats head coach Brian Fish. "You kind of focus in on your team. I'm not so concerned about what they're doing. We've got to correct our things. We've got to finish better. We need to have better possessions."

A key to tomorrow's game for the cats is stopping Montana's 6'8" junior Martin Bruenig. Bruenig, a transfer from Washington, is averaging nearly 18 points per game, good for third in the Big Sky.

"When you have a guy that comes to the university sometimes he spends all day trying to show you what he can't do," said Fish. "Then when you get him on the transfer, they kind of go, "I better make this work". He looks like a guy that has figured out this is what I can do and let me be really good at doing it."

The Cats are coming off close losses to Idaho State, and a three point loss to Weber State. They've now lost eight straight, but say a rivalry game could be the trick to turn things around.

"It's always a great rivalry for football ad basketball," Said Cats junior forward Danny Robinson. "My brother played football so I know all about it. It's tough playing there. They have a great crowd. The last 2 years we've been right there at the end of the game. We just lost by one possession like we have been."

"Obviously, K-State and Kansas," said Fish. "Believe it or not when I was there it was more Oregon-UW, than Oregon and Oregon State. That's a great rivalry. Having said all that this rivalry having such a state-wide interest in things certainly rivals anything that I've ever been at."
