Abramson Earns National Player of the Week Honors

University of Great Falls women's basketball player Lindsey Abramson was named the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the NAIA announced Tuesday.

Abramson scored 22 points and added 14 rebounds, three steals, three assists and one block as the then-No. 22 Lady Argonauts upset the No. 10 MSU-Northern Skylights 82-64 in conference play Saturday at the McLaughlin Center.

“Yeah I was (surprised),” Abramson said. “I didn't expect to win and I don't feel like I had the numbers to win, but I'm very excited.”

The performance was Abramson's 11th double-double of the season. She is ranked third in the NAIA in rebounds per game (11.7) and total rebounds (258).

The honor comes after Abramson's second Frontier Conference Player of the Week honor which she earned Monday.

It's also the second time the Phoenix, Ariz., native has won the national award. Abramson also earned the distinction for the week of Jan. 5, 2014 after a school-record 51-point outburst against Rocky Mountain College.

Abramson said the award was as much a recognition for her team – which moved up to No. 20 in the rankings – as it was for her personally.

“It was a big win for us, and it was a good win for us,” Abramson said. “I think (the award) comes with winning.”

UGF (5-2 Frontier, 18-4 overall) has already tied the school record for wins in a season with 18. The Lady Argos play at Montana Tech Thursday and at No. 21 Lewis-Clark State Saturday.
