Capital's Cozzie Making Own Footsteps in Signing with Cats

HELENA - Walker Cozzie always thought he'd be a Carroll Saint just like his father Brad was during his hall of fame career. But instead of following in dad's footsteps, Walker will be making his own as a Bobcat this fall.

"It was very tough actually because I was getting recruited pretty hard from Carroll," said Walker. "But I just always had the dream of playing Division I football, and that's the way I decided to go."

"He was one step quicker than the NAIA," said Brad. "I knew he had D-1 potential."

Walker will play linebacker at MSU on a partial scholarship. And the decision is switching his wardrobe from purple and gold to blue and gold.

"For Christmas that was all I was seeing," said Walker. "Cats stuff, and navy blue."

"I've got a lot of blue and gold myself," said Brad. "It started when he verbally committed, and it's just nonstop."

While the colors may be changing for the Cozzie family, the advice from father to son really hasn't.

"Continue working hard," said Brad. "In the weight room, work on speed. He's got a tenacious appetite to compete so I think that'll take him wherever he wants to go."

As Walker goes on to Bozeman this fall there's only one thing for a father and son to do, hug.
