Orange Could Become Optional

Posted: Updated:
Montana -

A new bill aims to make wearing orange optional for some of Montana's hunters.

Four hundred square inches of orange has been the requirement for hunters since 1971 according to Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

But now Senate Bill 154 would make orange optional for adult hunters.

We checked the temperature of hunters in the Flathead and most agreed that wearing orange is a safety measure.

But some felt adult hunters should be able to make adult decisions.

"I think it should be the discretion of the hunter and myself, like I said, I would be out in the field I would still have an orange hat on when I'm hunting, when I get to the game and I'm going sneak up on it then I'll take the hat off,” said hunter Todd Wirthlan.

The bill would require hunters under 18 to continue wearing orange.
