Senior Standout: CMR's Payton Sexe

Posted: Updated:

Payton Sexe is one of those kids you would love to have on your team. He's hard-nosed, passionate, loves to compete and is a talented two sport athlete.

"Amazing athlete, great work ethic, great character. Kid that's a leader in the room and fun to be around. And he gets after it on the mat. He's really set a great tone for a lot of kid's to follow and he's earned everything he's got," said Aaron Jensen, Rustlers head wrestling coach.

He's definitely earned his fair share of success on the mat. He enters this week's state tournament as the top seed from the Eastern AA at 205 pounds. But he's perhaps had his most success on the football field. As a first team all state selection this year he also earned a scholarship to play football at Carroll College next year.

"Van Diest is a great coach. They got a great program. I love that school. It's just really close knit and it feels like a family when you're there," said Payton Sexe, Rustler Sr.

Payton will move on and represent CMR as a Carroll Saint but he will be remembered at a school that already has a rich tradition.

"He's just been a leader not only in this program, the football program, but the school in general. He's a great kid, carries a good GPA, good citizen and then when it's time to compete whether it's football, wrestling, checkers or whatever he shows up and gives it his best effort," said Jensen.

Which Payton plans to give this week at the state tournament in Billings where he hopes to leave with a state title.

"Just wrestle consistently and wrestle how I know I can and the rest will come," said Sexe.

He's been so successful taking that approach so far. So it's hard to think it won't work again for Payton, this weekend, and beyond.
