Mark Samson Named Havre Head Football Coach

Posted: Updated:

Former Montana State-Northern football coach Mark Samson has been named head coach of the Havre High Blue Ponies.

Samson takes over for Jason Christenson, who resigned in December after five seasons in which he went 25-25-1 and reached the playoffs in all five seasons, including a trip to the semi-final in 2011.

Prior to accepting the position at Havre, Samson coached at MSU-Northern for 10 seasons before resigning in August 2014 after being placed on administrative leave. University system officials said he deposited $3,000 in football camp revenue into his personal checking account and paid camp employees without withholding payroll taxes.

Samson returns to the prep level where he has had plenty of success. He coached at Helena Capital from 1997-2003, winning Class AA state titles in 1999, 2000 and 2002. He said that returning to high school football is something he is comfortable with doing and thinks the transition back will be fine.

Samson also told KFBB that he missed coaching and that he's been teaching at Havre high school since December.
