Senior Standout: Townsend's Skylar Geisser

Posted: Updated:

Going into his senior year Skylar Geisser knew that for the Townsend Bulldogs to make some noise he had to make some changes to his shot.

"When I was younger I was never really good at shooting," said Skylar. "So I made it a goal for me to develop a jump shot and get consistent at it."

Developing a good jump shot is hard work. And Skylar knew that to get it he couldn't afford a day off no matter what the conditions were.

"I've seen him outside when it was a blizzard shooting," said Skylar's teammate and cousin Dillion Dundas. "Ten or 20 degrees, he's out there shooting with his gloves on and sweats, and he's still playing. Loves the game."

"I'd say zero or below zero," said Skylar. "I just bundle up and go out and shoot."

All that bundling seems to have paid off. Skylar leads the Bulldogs in scoring at about 14 points per night, including being tied for hitting the most three pointers in the conference. But not only has he become one of the top scorers in class B, but also become a great leader.

"One thing you like out of your leaders is that they're approachable, and that they lead by example, and he does" said Bulldogs head coach Gary Bauman. "Off season, in the evening, on the weekends, he is always around basketball. He's what you want."

"They see what I've done and how hard I've worked," said Skylar. "So the trust they've put in me helps me realize that's my role as a leader."

Skyler is one of the most dedicated players to the game of basketball in the state. If you don't believe me, challenge him to a shootout during the next blizzard. Following high school he hopes to get a basketball scholarship to play collegiately
