Senior Standout: Sunburst's Tyler Tharp

Posted: Updated:

"He's not always the loudest kid out there but when he needs to say something, the kids listen and that's a great thing to have as a coach," said Nate Aschim, Refiners head coach.

Sunburst's Tyler Tharp is a quiet assassin. He may not say much but he sure can score the basketball.

"He can shoot the lights out at any time. He can get hot. He makes good decisions with his shot and when he gets going, there's not many people that can shoot like he can," said Aschim.

Not many people that are as involved as Tyler either. Aside from leading the Refiners in scoring, he's also involved in the community, most notably as a firefighter.

"My dad was the chief so he nominated me and then I just have a 12 month probation but I'm at four months now so I just respond and stuff," said Tyler Tharp, Refiners Sr. Guard.

Tyler's resume is impressive and much of that is a direct reflection of his work ethic and leadership which is perhaps best exemplified by how far his team has come.

"Tyler's kind of the backbone of the whole thing. Two years we were 1-19 and we begged him to be a leader more and more and he stepped up into that role great. We needed someone to kind of harness the team and he does that," said Aschim.

"We got a slow start to our career in high school but we just stuck it out and put in the work all four years and it's finally paid off now," said Tharp.

That's the beauty of hard work. You put the time in and good things happen. And that's what happened to Tyler. That's what will continue to happen with a kid like him.
