Seeley Firefighter Has Gear Stolen at Stairclimb Challenge

Posted: Updated:
A Seeley Lake firefighter competes for the gold in Seattle but loses some precious items along the way.

After a charity stair-climb this past weekend at Seattle's Columbia Tower somebody stole his truck which was filled with all of his firefighting equipment.

Shawn Ellinghouse is beyond angry, "I feel violated not only for stealing my gear, but my wife's personal belongings."

Somebody stole all of his wife's credit cards and every single piece of his firefighting equipment which is all worth a ton of money. According to Ellinghouse, "I'm guessing $10,000 minimum."

They also stole something that's dear to his heart, something he relies on everyday saving lives as a volunteer firefighter in Seely Lake, and as a contractor to put food on his family's table, his truck. "I consider my vehicle a member of my family, like my kids it was almost my pride and joy."

Over the weekend Shawn and hundreds of other firefighters from 26 different states strapped-on their gear and climbed to the top of Seattle's Columbia Tower to raise money to fight cancer.

Once again Shawn selflessly put himself on the line to help somebody else but last night, after the run, he parked his a 2007 blue, Toyota Tundra at his motel. Surveilance cameras show somebody driving the truck away at 11:30 p.m. "We came here to do a good cause and this kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth, not for Seattle, but the whole aspect of people can't leave stuff well enough alone."

The license plate on Shawn's truck is AJT-754.

Another twist to the story, two years ago Ellinghouse was lying in a hospital bed after undergoing surgery on his leg. Doctors told him participating in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb one day might not even be a reality.
