Capital Softball All About Defense in Preseason

Posted: Updated:
HELENA - The Capital softball team will look to get back to state after a second round loss there last year. The Bruins come in with three seniors this year, all up the defensive middle with pitcher Brittany Smith, short stop McKenzie Johnston, and center fielder Sydney Ladas. So while the hitting may be something they're working on the defense should be in mid-season form early.

"It's one of the things we preach, getting people in the right position to make defensive plays," said Bruins head coach Mike Miller. "Our strength is for sure that it's always good to have good folks up the middle. That's a bonus, and then it gets them into the portions of the field where they can lead the younger girls."

"We always have a pretty good defensive team no matter what," said Bruins senior pitcher Brittany Smith. "It just always turns out that way that we have good girls at every position. We're getting a lot stronger hitters, and being smarter at the plate, and being smarter in the field so that will always help us."
