Ice Breaker Inspiration: 82 year old Louise Mitchell

"There have been a few times when we've had to run through snow and blizzards and rain and thunderstorms and lightning, and just any condition. You never know."

The weather might be questionable, but one thing is for certain. 82 year old Louise Mitchell will be there, running the three mile race at the Ice Breaker, and she has the medals to prove it. Louise has done almost every single one of Great Falls famous road race, she even came in first for her age group in 2013, when she had a heart attack at the end of it!

"When I was finished, I became nauseated and the paramedics came over and said you look like you're having a heart attack, and they put me in the ambulance, and that's when it hit," Mitchell recalls.

The three stents placed in her left artery haven't kept her from running. In fact, nothing has since she started again at age 48, a half block at a time.

"I couldn't hardly run at all. And then, finally, we did the Ice Breaker and I thought the thing would never end."

Since then she's completed dozens, If not more than 100 other races, including 20 marathons.

"I guess I really enjoyed the one in Phoenix because they have a Rock in Roll band every two miles."

When asked why she continues to run, the answer is pretty simple.

"I just love running, ever since I was a child I would run to school and back."

At 82 years young, Louise continues to inspire. And rain, snow, medical emergency, On April 26th, look for her again running towards another Ice Breaker finish line.
