Choteau/Conrad Loaded for Another State Title Game Run

Posted: Updated:

Losing is always hard. Especially when you've come so far and lose the one that matters the most. For Conrad/Choteau, they came up just short last year, falling to softball power Florence in the B-C state championship. But this season, Conrad/Choteau is on a mission.

"Last year we were in the mindset of hoping to win and this year I'm hoping we're expecting to win," said head coach Mick Morris.

"Everyone wants it just as bad so everyone is going to get it like we want to be there again so it's just everyday putting in all we have so we can get there again," said Tristan Achenbach, sophomore pitcher.

One of the reasons Conrad/Choteau has such high expectations is because they have one of the best pitchers in B-C, all-state sophomore ace Tristan Achenbach.

"Anytime you get a girl like that on the mound, especially in softball, she's going to keep you in every game. So if you can find a way to score a couple runs and play a little catch behind her you're going to be in every game. And this year she's better, which is scary I think," said Morris.

What's even scarier is the team has gotten better, too. After losing just one senior, they're loaded with talent and have great team chemistry.

"One of our strengths as a team is we seem to get along pretty well. Really well actually, which sometimes with girls you don't always get but we're lucky in that regard that we get along great," said Morris.

"Our freshman are stepping up and older kids are doing well from last year and I think we're going to make a run definitely and we should be better than last year," said senior catcher Michaela DeBoo.

Which, if they are, means they'll have a chance to win a state championship. Last year, they were just a game away. And this year, they expect to get over the hump and bring a title home.
