Saints Basketball Signs Washington Forward

Posted: Updated:

Carroll men's basketball signed 6-8 forward Match Burnham from Spangle, Wash., head coach Carson Cunningham announced Thursday.

"I saw Match Burnham play in the final rounds of the Washington 2B State Championship, and I was mightily impressed by his grit, sharp-shooting, and general basketball acumen," Cunningham said. "He has many parts to his game, but the thing that stands out the most his ability to shoot the apple at 6-8."

Burnham led Liberty High School to the state title game his senior year and was named to the Associated Press 2B All-State First-Team. The Lancers finished with a 26-3 record. He averaged 23.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 85 percent from the line during his senior season, good enough to earn Northeast 2B MVP honors. During his junior year he helps lead the Lancers to a fifth place finish at state in 2014. He was a four-year letterwinner in both basketball and football where he was a four-year starting quarterback.

"With a name like Match Burnham, the fact that he's a flame-thrower seems rather apropos," Cunningham said. "He's also a dynamo in the classroom. We're excited that he's chosen to become a Fighting Saint."

Burnham carries a 3.67 GPA and is ranked fourth in his class. He plans to major in business at Carroll. He joins Great Falls High standout Matt Wyman as the Carroll signees to date.
