Saints Wrap Up Spring Camp with Second Scrimmage

Posted: Updated:

Well it's a wrap on Carroll Saints spring football for the year, and as we close up camp there are still a few questions that need answered, particularly at running back. The Saints still trying to figure that one out. They're going to go into camp with Dylan Green and Ryan Walsh as their two lead runners. Today it was Walsh's day to run with the offense, and he did pretty well.

"I thought he ran extremely well," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "I thought he did some things that we wanted to. He ran the ball, he cut back, had the speed he showed to get to the corner. So I thought our run offense and blocking scheme was pretty good at times."

"It's not always about the running backs, the line is doing well too," said Walsh. "It helps us out a little bit. I had a few mistakes but I think I had a strong day."

The Saints also entered the day looking for their fourth and fifth receivers. And while coach Van Diest isn't sure they found them, he isn't too worried.

"The guy that is kind of an unknown, and I don't care if anyone knows about, is Ryan Walsh can catch the ball out of the backfield. Dylan Green can catch the ball out of the backfield. We didn't have that with Dustin Rinker. Dustin maybe caught four passes in his career, and that was four too many."

Now going into the summer coach Van Diest really stressed the fact that he just wants his players to know the playbook. Getting physically stronger comes with along with every year of college football, but he wants his guys to be some of the smartest players in the Frontier conference.
