Senior Standout: Chinook's Lane Seymour

Posted: Updated:

Lane Seymour is teeing up for his last shot at a state golf title and he's putting in the work whenever he can.

"I've been working more than I ever have on my golf game," says the Chinook senior. "I come out here during my study hall period and then before my dad gets out here for practice I'll hit 20, 30 or 40 balls from distances that are troubling me through my rounds."

But it's not like golf has been giving Lane too much trouble. He placed 2nd as a junior and a sophomore but this year he's hoping to finally finish at the top.

"That would be incredible," says Seymour. "I can't pin state title to me, but so to be able to do that individual or team it would be wonderful."

The rest of the Sugarbeeters have shared the same success as Lane. As a team, they've placed 2nd, 2nd and 3rd in the last three years.

"When he goes out and golfs with some players, if they are having some difficulties he's able to asses their game and kind of give them a few tips," says head coach Mike Seymour. "Here and there to help them out also."

Lane has built quite the trophy case as a senior. The Football team finished 2nd at State and the basketball team placed 3rd as districts. But he admitted that golf requires a different approach

"It's just totally different from everything else," says Lane. "Basketball is a blast but then golf. You just kind of get to be in the quiet. It's a good time."

Hopefully it won't be too quiet if Lane finally gets the chance to celebrate with a first place trophy.
