CMR's Martinez Happy Making Switch from Singles to Doubles

Posted: Updated:

Lindsay Martinez went 31-0 and won a state championship last year. So, what else does she have to prove? Well, nothing, at least in singles. Which is why she's playing doubles for her senior season.

"I really enjoy doubles. I think it's just something I have fun with. I like having with a partner, playing up at the net. I played a big long season of singles last year, doubles my freshman and sophomore year, so just thought it would be fun to play doubles my senior year," said CMR senior Lindsay Martinez.

So who's the lucky partner, you ask? She's just a freshman. But Mackenize George can more than hold her own on the court.

"Kenzie's a great player. She's been playing tennis for a long time and I've known her a lot of years through our families. I just knew it would be fun to play with her if she was up for it. My freshman year I played with a senior and learned a lot from her so I hope with Kenzie I'm setting a good example for her," said Martinez.

Which, she is. Mackenzie is enjoying having Martinez on her team.

"I'm having fun. I hope she is. It's a great experience playing with a state champion. She's really good in pressure situations. She always stays calm. I don't think I've ever seen her upset or nervous," said George.

With Mackenzie by her side, Lindsay won't repeat as singles champion. But they're both hoping for a shot to win one in doubles.

"I think it would be really fun and with doubles I have Kenzie to share it with and I think the team would really enjoy it," said Martinez.

"I don't want to be too confident but i definitely think we can place in the state tournament and I really want to win for Lindsay since it's her last year and she's already won in singles," said George.

That she has. But she's doubling down. Lindsay's going for number 2 playing 2 on 2.
