Chinook Golf Aiming for State Title

Posted: Updated:

Winning a trophy three years in a row is an accomplishment.

But this year the Chinook golf team wants to win the one that matters.

"Obviously, a third and second and a second are pretty good," says head coach Mike Seymour. "But we want that ever elusive first place. And that's what our goal is this year."

"After we took 2nd two years ago, we were really gunning for that first place finish," says Senior Lane Seymour. "Came up short, but this year we're definitely in the running for it again."

The Beeters certainly have the talent. Seymour finished 2nd in back to back seasons and joins forces with Ian McIntosh, Derek Bell and Kade Friede. Jake Norby has qualified for state too. Together the team should be able to tackle the course at state which will be in shelby this year.

But in order to get over the hump, the Beeters will have to get past a Lone Peak team that bested them each of the last two seasons.

"I probably have to shoot in the low to mid 70s," says Lane. "Derek and Ian, they're very capable of shooting high 70s, low 80s. If we did that, we'd be right there with them."

Which could allow Chinook to head home with that elusive first place trophy for the first time in school history.
