GREAT FALLS, Mont. – University of Great Falls men's basketball coach Anthony Owens announced the signing of Great Falls High standout Jake Wetzel to the Argonauts program.

Wetzel signed his letter of intent Monday at the school. He will join UGF after an outstanding senior season in which he averaged 9.2 points and 3.2 rebounds for the Bison.

“I never really pictured myself staying in town and playing – or even playing at the next level,” Wetzel said. “It's going to be good to play in my hometown with the fan support I have here, and become a part of the Argo Family.”

Wetzel is renowned for his prodigious perimeter shooting abilities. He was 33 of 69 from the 3-point line for a .478 percentage.

“I want to add (3-point) shooting to the table this year,” Owens said. “That's why I want to bring him on.”

The Argonauts finished 17-12 last season and are looking to replace their top two perimeter threats – Marcus Hurn and TJ Harris – both of whom are graduating.

GFH reached the Class AA state semifinals after knocking off tourney favorite Missoula Hellgate in the first round of the state tournament before finishing the season with a 15-9 overall record.
