Former Griz Great Gragg Begins Life as Fort Benton's New Principal

Posted: Updated:

When Scott Gragg walks past you, you notice. The former Griz great is big. He's 6 foot 8, and was even drafted by the New York Giants! And his presence was noted by his, then, future employers.

"In my interview time I spent presenting with Jory, and the board up there (Fort Benton), he said that's the last time you're going to stand up for a presentation," Gragg says with a laugh.

All kidding aside, the former All-Pro believes it's a good fit in Fort Benton. Incoming Superintendent Jory Thompson agrees, saying his new hire has a great passion for leadership. Gragg says that's something he got from football.

"The reason I got into leadership, whether coaching or academics is because of the great coaches and leaders I had in my life, so if I can instill some of that into the kids and teachers as well, that's why I'm doing it."

Since leaving the NFL a decade ago, Gragg has been on track for a job like this. He got his Masters in education, taught math and coached high school football. Since 2010 he was on the Grizzlies coaching staff, and after last season, he was looking for something new.

"This spring and earlier in the winter, trying to decide what was going to happen, I enrolled in education leadership and knew that I had passion to be a principal or AD."

I'm sure Fort Benton fans are wondering, how about a coach? Gragg says next year he'll have his hands full going to school while being principal.

"I will be a full time student and administrator in the fall so wearing a head football coach's hat is unlikely, so we need a head football coach, head volleyball coach and a math teacher."

He will be busy. But Gragg is certainly built to shoulder the load
