It runs in the family.

"My mom and dad they both we're good at track when they were in high school and my two older brothers we're pretty good at track and ever since I was little I would go to their track meets an watch them run," said Jake Iverson.

But now everybody is watching him. Jake is fresh of a divisional first place finish in all three of his events, the 800, 1600 and 3200 which he set a personal record a couple weeks ago running under 10 minutes.

"I was jumping up and down screaming. We were all yelling out splits. I had hime without about 50 meters counting down from 15 to get him under that 10 and he was just sprinting and going for it but I was so happy," said Rams assistant coach Haley Zoe Thompson.

"I've been thinking about doing that since I started running and so now that I did it's just a great accomplishment," said Iverson.

That didn't come without putting in the work.

"He's really hard working, he's smart, really athletic and puts a lot of time in on his own in the offseason running and working hard," Kaden Keith, Rams junior.

"He's really mentally strong as well as physical so if there is that kid in front of him he does not let himself get beat no matter what," said Haley Zoe Thompson.

Which is bad news for anyone in his way. Jake's ran countless miles in his career but it's the milestone at his final meet that he wants more than anything.

"That'd be better than the sub-10. Ever since my brother won that 800 state championship - that's the main goal right there," said Iverson.

Jake's never placed in a state meet. But he's also never done some of the things he's accomplished this year. And so long as he keeps his pace, he might end his season with something he's wanted since he was a kid.
